85-Year-Old Widow Asked For Help Staying Warm. A Stranger Did So Much More
\nWhen an 85-year-old widow in North Carolina picked up the phone to call a local tree removal company, she wasn\u2019t looking for a miracle \u2014 just firewood to stay warm.<\/p>\n

The woman, known as Nana Abernathy, explained that she was out of wood, had recently lost her husband, and didn\u2019t have her Social Security check coming in until the following week. Unable to afford the cost, she was hoping someone might help.<\/p>\n

That call reached Paul Brittain, owner of Brittain\u2019s Tree and Crane Services \u2014 and what happened next went far beyond a simple delivery.<\/p>\n

Brittain decided not to charge her a dime.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe got a call from an 85-year-old lady. She\u2019s out of firewood, she\u2019s down on her luck, she lost her husband\u2026 little does she know, we ain\u2019t gonna charge her.\u201d<\/p>\n

He dropped off the firewood, gave Abernathy a hug, and headed out.<\/p>\n

But he couldn\u2019t stop thinking about her.<\/p>\n

So he went back.<\/p>\n

Over the following days, Brittain and his team fixed Abernathy\u2019s leaking roof, repaired her heating unit, and even put brand-new tires on her car \u2014 all completely free.<\/p>\n

Wanting to make sure she was truly taken care of, Brittain also set up a GoFundMe, sharing Abernathy\u2019s story with the world.<\/p>\n

The response was overwhelming. More than $20,000 was raised.<\/p>\n

What started as a desperate call for firewood turned into a powerful reminder of what happens when compassion shows up at the right time.<\/p>\n
