The mother of a 6-year-old boy who was hit and killed by a school bus in OKC is speaking out, saying he was the light of his house.
OKLAHOMA CITY -Jennifer Salgado sits in her living room still in disbelief that her baby boy Adrian Salgado, who the family called “Papito” is gone.
She said the house is not the same without him and adds he was the light of this house.
“We miss everything about him, his craziness, his cries, his screams, his running around jumping everywhere,” said Salgado.
Reflecting on her son, Adrian, Salgado said she could still see his big, beautiful eyes. She said he loved playing with his dinosaurs and putting on his Spider-Man pajamas.
In her grief, Salgado is not blaming the bus driver for the accident. She said it could have happened to anyone.
Salgado said Adrian was walking home from school Wednesday afternoon with his nine-year-old brother Abraham.
Oklahoma City Police say the school bus was turning right when Adrian tried running across the street to beat the bus.
Through her pain, Salgado said she wants to see more protection for kids in her neighborhood.
“Everybody passes by so fast.We don’t have any signage. There’s kids coming from school,” said Salgado.
Salgado said her Southwest Oklahoma City neighborhood is filled with small children. She said she would like to see more street signs and possibly speed bumps in the area to help protect them.
