Young Mum, 22, Raises Four Toddlers After Having Two Sets of Twins — and Plans to Become a Surrogate

At just 22 years old, Little Rock mother Kaitlin Brooks is raising four toddlers — all under the age of three — after welcoming two sets of twins in just two years. Now, the young single mum is even considering becoming a surrogate to help others experience the joy of parenthood.

Kaitlin’s journey into motherhood began in March 2019, when she learned at age 19 that she was expecting twins. On October 29, 2019, she gave birth to her first set — Denver and Dayton Brooks. Denver, the more adventurous twin, was born first weighing 6lbs 10.5oz, followed eight minutes later by Dayton, who weighed 6lbs 7.7oz. Although Kaitlin had a healthy pregnancy, she spent a week in the hospital after delivery due to postpartum preeclampsia.

Just one month after celebrating their first birthday, Kaitlin discovered she was pregnant again — with another set of twins. In August 2021, she welcomed her second pair, Pierce and Piper Brooks, after carrying them to 38 weeks and five days. Pierce weighed 7lbs 5oz at birth, while Piper weighed 6lbs 13oz. Unlike her first delivery, Kaitlin was able to return home only 24 hours later.

Kaitlin says her rare back-to-back twin pregnancies are the result of hyperovulation, meaning she releases two eggs during ovulation. “My doctor told me that every time I get pregnant it will be twins,” she explained. Because of this, she plans to have her tubes tied in the future.

Still, she considers herself fortunate. “I’m blessed — it’s a miracle,” she said, noting that twins run in her family. Her great-grandmother’s sisters had both twins and triplets. She adds that her children already have their own strong personalities: “Denver is my wild child, but Dayton is more shy. They’re different, but they love being around each other.”

Despite the challenge of raising four toddlers so close in age, Kaitlin stays optimistic. “People are shocked when I tell them I’ve got two sets of twins,” she said. “They ask how I do it, and I just say, ‘I don’t really have a choice — this is my life.’”

Looking to the future, Kaitlin hopes to support other families by becoming a surrogate, offering the chance of parenthood to those who can’t conceive on their own.
